Rodney Holton - Company Director

Rodney has more than 25 years experience in boat building and super yacht repair.

He commenced his boatbuilding apprenticeship at Thackwray Yachts in 1984 and completed it at Weideweck Boatbuilders in 1991. There he gained a thorough grounding in all aspects of superyacht construction while specialising in aluminium fabrication.

In 1993 Rodney left New Zealand to gain international experience, working with some of the leading boat building including  Pendennis Yachts in the UK.

His knowledge and skill of working complex hull panels to precise shapes has gained him high praise from world leading boat builders who appreciate that time and care taken in initial construction pays huge dividends when fairing and finishing.

Rodney has also crewed on some of the world’s most famous super yachts and so understands the types of conditions his work can be subject to.

In 1995 Rodney was headhunted and flown to South Africa to supervise a year long project to re-weld the entire hull of a 130ft alloy yacht that had been condemned by Lloyds. He performed much of the welding and supervised and co-ordinated the painters and carpenters to keep the project on schedule. The repairs were completed and subsequently approved by Lloyds.

Returning to New Zealand to start a family, Rodney, in partnership with his brother Andrew founded Holton Marine in 1996.

From small beginnings the company has grown to its current size while maintaining its focus on quality and on time delivery.

Rodney is closely involved in the day to day running of Holton Marine and still pulls on his overalls and works on boats when required to ensure that all work is finished on time and to his high standards.
